One of the biggest reasons people don’t start is because they think they have to scan everything.
You don’t.
Your digital collection should focus on the photos that tell your family story — the important events, the milestones, the moments that matter.
You don’t need:
• 50 photos from the same party
• Every single holiday snapshot
• Multiple copies of the same image
I inherited 20 albums spanning five generations, I chose not to scan every photo in their collection for example their holidays I chose just a few nice photos of them to remember their love of travel but not all their scenery shots blurry shots etc.
From my 1930s collection, I have many photos of people I don’t know and who aren’t direct relatives. Those don’t need to be part of my preserved digital legacy to pass to my children
Sometimes we believe we can’t let photos go. But the ones that don’t tell your story don’t all need digitising.
They can still be kept safely in a memory box.
Your goal isn’t to preserve everything.
Your goal is to preserve your family story — and pass that on in a way that feels meaningful and manageable.
Most families don’t want thousands of images. They want a carefully chosen collection of the moments and people that shaped their lives.
Start with what matters most. Choose 500 photos start there bring them for scanning
You can always scan more later.
